Borg El Arab Airport is located near Borg El Arab, about 40 kilometres from Alexandria, the airport also serves people living in the surrounding Nile Delta region.
Closing El Nouzha Airport for renovations in 2010 and still not finishing them has made Borg El Arab the city's only functional airport.
History & Development
Opened in 1998, Borg El Arab Airport served this purpose when Cairo International Airport reached its passenger and cargo limits. A major expansion carried out in 2009 for $97 million improved both the airport’s ability to serve more guests and the quality of its facilities, where a new terminal building was built.
With the expansion, the airport could serve up to 2 million passengers each year. Both airlines and destinations are considered.
