You will see many rare and dazzling artifacts, including the unparalleled funerary collection of Yuya and Thuya, Psusennes I, and the precious treasures of Tanis. You will see the Narmer Palette, too, which commemorates the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt and is among the museum's rare and priceless artifacts. The museum also houses magnificent statues of great kings such as Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the builders of the pyramids on the Giza Plateau. You will find a large collection of ancient papyri, coffins, and jewelry completes this museum's distinguished collection.
You will visit the Citadel of Saladin, which witnessed many important and pivotal historical events in Egypt's history, from the Ayyubid era until the end of the Muhammad Ali dynasty, which ruled Egypt for a long time from the beginning of the nineteenth century until the July Revolution of 1952. Many important structures have been added to the citadel over the ages, most notably the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, the Mosque of al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun, and the Mosque of Sulayman Pasha al-Khadem, in addition to several museums, including the Qasr al-Jawhara Museum, the Police Museum, and the Military Museum. You will see the dazzling alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali, distinguished by the use of alabaster marble that covers its interior walls. This mosque is renowned for its two towering minarets, which, at 84 meters, are the tallest in Egypt. Adding the mosque's 80-meter length to the height of the two minarets brings its height to 164 meters above sea level. You will also see the Hanging Church, built in the distinctive basilica style, comprising seven sanctuaries, preceded by a wooden iconostasis, and topped with icons depicting Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, angels, apostles, and saints. The most noble of the church's pillars is made of solid marble, supported by 13 marble columns dating back to the 14th century AD. You will visit the famous Abu Serga Church, also built in the basilica style. It consists of three sections separated by marble columns decorated with depictions of saints and martyrs and topped with Corinthian-style capitals. The nave includes the Baptismal Shrine, the Luqman, and the most noble marble sanctuary, which precedes the three sanctuaries located on the eastern side of the church. The middle sanctuary is the main sanctuary, and below it is the Cave Church, which is the smaller church built on the site of the cave where the Holy Family lived during their journey into Egypt. It is considered the oldest part of the church.
