Abu Simbel Temple

Be sure to visit the towering Abu Simbel Temple, located in Aswan Governorate, which is considered by many to be one of the most important archaeological sites in Great Egypt. The Great Temple of Abu Simbel is significant because of the activity of the sun on the statue of the great Pharaoh Ramses II. Every year, the sun sets on the face of the statue exactly twice a year, on the 22nd of October and the 22nd of February.

The temple has an outstanding design and architecture. It's construction had an architectural façade which was carved into a rock. It is also glorified with four massive 20 meter tall statues of King Ramses II. After the façade of the temple there is a corridor which allows access to the temple’s interior. The temple is roughly 48 meters deep and it's walls are carved with depictions of the king's victories as well as conquests.

Furthermore, you will also be able to learn about the religious beliefs of the pharaohs from the guide who will explain religious scenes showing the king with the ancient Egyptian deities.

You will visit the smaller temple inside of the Abu Simbel complex, which is just a hundred meters away from the first temple. It is dedicated to the King’s chief wife, Queen Nefertari, and the goddess Hathor.

The elaborate reliefs in the vestibule depict Ramses' military exploits, while the hall of columns decorated with anthropomorphic columns draws you deep into the temple, and Ramses, seated among the gods, adds a touch of mystery, enhanced by the unique sun alignment that displays specific images of the sun's rays twice a year.

Don't miss a visit to the Museum of Marvels on the Egyptian Banks to see one of Egypt's unique archaeological artifacts.
